Daniel James Hall was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on March 20, 1958 and died in Cheshire, Oregon on March 27, 2013. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Hall and stepfather, George Peterson.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Peterson, his brother David Hall (wife Mary) and nephews Alexander and Christopher; his stepsister Connie Lucas (husband Bill) and nieces Piper and Margaux. He is also survived by his uncle Donald Jones and cousins, Ken, Glenn and Rick.

Dan was raised in Grosse Pointe Park, MI and graduated from South High School in 1976. He also spent part of his youth in Pittsburgh, PA. The east side of Detroit was his home for many years and his longtime friends R.J. Spangler, Pat Cazabon, Joe White and Shawn Fitzgibbon are all from the area. Ultimately he was attracted by the people and lifestyles of Oregon, where he spent the last years of his life in the vicinity of his niece, Piper.

Dan was a capable and experienced small craft sailor, with both sail and motor boats. He spent several seasons as Captain of a charter fishing boat called the Sea H Four and was most familiar with Lake St. Clair, western Lake Erie and the Detroit River.

Dan had a keen interest in music and attended concerts and shows throughout his life. He appreciated many forms, including rock, reggae, blues and jazz. He was especially fond of big band funk music and knew several members of the Sun Messengers band. He was also an avid sports fan and closely followed the Detroit Red Wings and University of Michigan football. He always enjoyed sharing stories about his favorite athletes.

Dan had a quick wit and sharp sense of humor. He was also a great conversationalist and storyteller with a long memory and wide range of interests. He was proud of his heritage and vigorously defended people and issues that were close to heart. He had a passion for dogs and cats and occasionally inherited lost or neglected pets. He enjoyed mountain biking, snowboarding, day hikes and long trips by auto.

Toward the end of his life he became a skilled indoor gardener and it became his occupation. He was in the process of moving his home and business to a new local address when he was struck by a massive heart attack. Dan was cremated and his ashes were laid to rest by family and friends at two ceremonies in Oregon and Michigan.
